I love talking about a good book, but many of my favorite friends are far away. So let's talk about books here on the "Reading Along..." blog. Please be sure to post your comments here of what you are learning from our book.

Christianity's Family Tree - Chapter 4 - Presbyterianism (Reading Questions)

Chegal window
Fraumunster Church, Zurich
The hallmark of Presbyterian theology is the sovereignty of God - the idea that God reigns over every aspect of creation.

1.  Where does the name "Presbyterian" come from?  Who are the theological fathers of this tradition?  In what countries did they live?  Where does theology fall in relationship to the theology of the Roman Catholic and Lutheran traditions?

2.  Besides being a beautiful spring flower, what does TULIP stand for?
     T-
     U-
     L-
     I-
     P-

3.  What does it mean to say that God is sovereign?  Is there a difference between believing that God wills or instigates everything that happens and believing that God knows everything that will happen and is able to fold everything into his plans and purposes?

4.  How can our response to the sovereignty of God help us to live more authentically Christian lives?

5. What questions do you have about what makes Presbyterians different from other Christian followers?
