A little about me

I love talking about a good book, but many of my favorite friends are far away. So let's talk about books here on the "Reading Along..." blog. Please be sure to post your comments here of what you are learning from our book.

Christianty's Family Tree - Chapter 7 - Pentecostalism (Reading Questions)

Week 7 – Pentecostalism

You will receiver power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.  (Acts 1:8)

Reading Questions:
  1. What are some of the roles of the Holy Spirit?  What are some of the ways the Spirit works in our lives – individually and corporately (as the church)?  What are some of the specific ways we can open ourselves to the work of the Holy Spirit?
  2. From where did Pentecostalism take its name and why?
  3. What factors led to the Pentecostal tradition’s birth?
    • Connection to Methodism?
    • What is the Holiness movement?
    • Official beginning?
  4. How might a Pentecostal describe or define baptism of the Holy Spirit?  Why do they believe this experience is important?  What does it produce in the believer’s life?
  5. What other areas do Pentecostals emphasis as important to a person’s faith journey? (Hint; there are three)
  6. Read 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, 28, Ephesians 4:11; and 1 Peter 4:10-11.  What spiritual gifts does Paul name in these verses?  What gifts do you have (or think you may have) and how are you using them?
Looking forward to our conversation this week...

Peace, Deb
